STEAM CAMP PROGRAM

HOLISTIC LEARNING

Our three-week program includes a week of intensive English study in our beautiful campus located in Melbourne's Central Business District, and two weeks of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education delivered by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Class size: Up to 40 students
Student age: 14 - 17 (parent accompany compulsory for students under 15)
Accommodation options: Service apartments, designated student accommodations or homestay.*

WEEK ONE: INTENSIVE ENGLISH
WEEK TWO: STEAM CAMP
UNIVERSITY STYLE LEARNING
Students are given the chance to experience university-style learning with some hands-on workshops, live coding demonstrations as well as working in groups with a dedicated mentor. Fundamentals in design, HTML, CSS and Git will be covered in these workshops and masterclasses.
EARLY ADMISSIONS TO RMIT
RMIT's STEM programs may offer excellent opportunities for early admission to selected degree programs provided students have met the academic entry threshold.
HANDS ON PRACTICAL LEARNING
STEAM projects have a hands-on component designed to help students gain practical skills and experience in their field of study. This is especially valuable for students looking to pursue further education in science, engineering or technology.
CRITICAL THINKING AND TEAMWORK
STEAM projects at RMIT often involve an interdisciplinary approach, where students work across disciplines to solve complex problems. This helps students develop critical thinking skills and learn how to work with others.

Day 1: Introduction to Coding
Introduce students to the basics of coding and programming. Introduction to coding concepts such as loops, conditionals, and variables. Students will use online coding platforms like Code.org or Scratch to learn coding basics. Students will create simple programs using block-based coding tools. Students will be assessed based on their ability to understand coding concepts and create simple programs.
Day 2: Robotics and Automation
Introduce students to the principles of robotics and automation. Introduction to robotics and automation concepts. Students will build simple robots using Lego Mindstorms or similar kits. Students will program their robots to perform specific tasks. Students will be assessed based on their ability to build and program robots to perform specific tasks.
Day 3: 3D Printing and Design
Introduce students to the principles of 3D printing and design. Introduction to 3D printing and design concepts. Students will design their own 3D models using online 3D design tools like Tinkercad. Students will print their 3D models using a 3D printer. Students will be assessed based on their ability to design and print 3D models.
Day 4: Cybersecurity
Introduce students to the principles of cybersecurity. Introduction to cybersecurity concepts like encryption and secure passwords. Students will learn about common cyber attacks and how to protect against them. Students will participate in a cybersecurity challenge where they have to protect a computer network from cyber attacks. Students will be assessed based on their ability to understand cybersecurity concepts and participate in the cybersecurity challenge.
Day 5: Emerging Technologies
Introduce students to emerging technologies and their potential impact on society. Introduction to emerging technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence.
WEEK THREE: VISITING CASEY TECH SCHOOL
Casey Tech School focuses on providing cutting-edge courses and innovative education in cutting-edge science and technology. Through partnerships with major local businesses, the school gives students the opportunity to learn the latest science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) skills.
WEEKENDS: DAY TRIPS
On weekends or by request, we arrange boutique day tours to famous attractions in private buses with tour guides.
PARENT PROGRAMS: ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS

PRIVATE SHUTTLE DAY TOUR
Day tours for parents while the children are in class. Visit famous local attractions,
enjoy wineries, explore the biggest shopping mall in the southern hemisphere, have ffun at Crown Casino, or relax in Mornington Peninsula, and so much more!
Minimum 5 people per group.

As every student and family have different needs, Focus Language School can help each family formulate a unique school visitation itinerary. We can provide staff accompaniment to translate to explain during the tours and visitations, so you can make the most out of it.
School interviews can also be arranged if required.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Age: This program is open to students from year 8 to year 11 (14 yo - 17 yo).
English Proficiency: This program requires students to have an age-appropriate foundation of English.
Independent Capability: Students aged 15 and above can participate without accompanying parents, but must have the ability to take care of themselves.
STEAM Knowledge: Priority will be given to those with interest or experience in STEAM or related subjects.
